Sutter Rehabilitation Institute
Sutter Roseville Medical Center (916) 878-2588
Opened in December 2008, the Sutter Rehabilitation Institute at Sutter Roseville Medical Center strives to return patients to fulfilling lives. Our 55,000 square-foot facility is the region’s only standalone facility dedicated exclusively to rehabilitation. Here we provide therapeutic care to patients recovering from conditions that include:
- Stroke
- Brain injury
- Multiple trauma
- Amputation
- Spinal cord injury
- Orthopedic conditions
- Degenerative neurological disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other conditions
The institute is connected by an indoor walkway to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, so that patients are close to acute care, should they experience a medical crisis.
The center was designed by a team of professionals and former rehabilitation patients to provide patients with a welcoming environment and all the tools and technology they need to adjust to physical changes and gain daily-living skills. Among the innovative tools offered is Wii-habilitation, a novel use of Nintendo’s Wii game console that adds the element of fun to therapy routines.
Skilled and caring professionals
Most important, each patient admitted to the institute receives attentive care and three hours of daily therapy from knowledgeable experts, including a rehabilitation physician, registered nurses and physical, occupational, speech and recreation therapists. The multidisciplinary team works together closely to develop a highly personalized, coordinated therapy plan that helps patients achieve the greatest level of progress toward self-sufficiency. From nursing care to daily schedules, treatment approaches and therapy goals, each patients’ unique needs are incorporated into care plans that are monitored across the institute’s computer network. In addition, the care and therapy teams work with family members, providing education on the patient’s specific condition and training on how best to provide support that allows their loved one regain maximum independence.
Patient-centered design
The institute offers 40 private and semi-private patient rooms, including rooms specially designed for patients with brain and spinal cord injuries, and those emerging from comas. In addition, the center features a 3,000 square-foot therapy gym, activities of daily living (ADL) treatment rooms, private therapy rooms, indoor and outdoor dining and recreation areas, education resource center, and an independent living apartment for patients and families making the transition to home. One of the most inspired features of the institute is an outdoor therapy area created specifically to help patients navigate various surfaces, stairs, streets, sidewalks, crosswalks, grass and other outdoor challenges. There’s even a putting green to help golfers get back on their game.
At Sutter Rehabilitation Institute, therapeutic care from skilled nurses and experienced rehabilitation professionals, close proximity the Sutter Roseville Medical Center, innovative technology, patient-focused design, and a family-centered approach combine to provide patients and their families with an environment that encourages patient progress.
